Jeffrey Baker has spent over 40 years tuning and regulating all types of pianos from Steinway and Fazioli concert grands to modern Yamahas to classic uprights. As the former head of keyboard maintenance for the Carroll Musical Instrument Rental Service in NYC, Jeffrey was responsible for the preparation of pianos and other keyboard instruments for major performances, recordings, broadcasts, and other events. Since then he’s worked as an independent tuner-technician for A-list musicians like Lady Gaga, Herbie Hancock and Billy Joel, as well as major concert halls like Carnegie Hall.
Pianos are meant to be played. The more you play your piano, the better. For busy pianos, tuning is usually recommended every 3 months, but every piano should be serviced at least twice a year. Jeffrey can give you a personalized recommendation for how often your piano should be tuned upon his first visit.
How do you know if your piano is out of tune? Most notes on the piano require two or three strings to play correctly. If one string needs an adjustment, you may hear a trembling sound. You can also try playing a key with its upper or lower octave. If you hear a wavering sound, call Jeffrey for a consultation.
Rest assured that your piano will be in experienced, capable hands. To learn more about Jeffrey’s piano tuning experience, read his stories about his time spent tuning pianos for A-list musicians.
